Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC).
This council is dedicated to the advancement of education and research in interior design. IDEC publishes the Journal of Interior Design, which invites articles on theory, research, education, and practice in interior design. Online issues require membership in IDEC

International Interior Design Association (IIDA).
The IIDA Knowledge Center
provides links to abstracts of numerous articles on teaching interior design. Type “Teaching Interior Design” and “Interior Design Education” into the search engine for these links. Abstracts include information and sometimes links for accessing full text.

This article describes a course in interior design with the primary objective of helping students “develop a broader sensitivity for living things and an accompanying set of environmental ethics.” Includes a link to the course syllabus, projects, and exhibits for “Ecological Literacy and Design” taught at Cornell University.

Accreditation in Interior Design

Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
The mission of this council is to set standards for postsecondary interior design education and evaluate and accredit college and university interior design programs. Accreditation includes a self-evaluation process and site visits by trained evaluators. This site provides information, standards, manuals, and other resources for accreditation.
