Chair Stone welcomed the group and noted that the next meetings of the Steering Committee will be on:
July 25
August 22
Chairman Stone indicated that the FEA needed to move on implementing the newly approved Bylaws. The Nominations Committee reported and a number of recommendations were made for members to the Steering Committee for the upcoming year. Members of the Nominations Committee will contact the potential new members to see if they have interest in joining the Steering Committee. The new nominations appeared to be an excellent group of faculty emeriti. The new members will be invited to the next meeting on July 25.
The Steering Committee decided that the Bylaws will be fully implemented by the end of the Academic year 2007-2008. The suggested new members of the Steering Committee will be become members immediately for full terms. The Nominations Committee will then work to implement the Bylaws so that in the spring of 2008 new members will be elected and the election procedures will automatically follow the Bylaws from that point forward.
The Nominations Committee will also need to develop a slate of Officers (Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer) to be available for the Steering Committee to elect for the upcoming year. This election should be done no later than the September meeting.Dr. Gliozzo said that Dr. Michael Thoennessen , Professor of Physics and Astronomy will be the speaker for the next seminar which will be held on June 27. His topic will be: The Future of Nuclear Physics at MSU: The Isotope Science Facility. Fred Vanosdall agreed to introduce the speaker.
A discussion followed as to that timing for the seminar after the June seminar. It was decided that September would be a good time for another seminar. Professor Gliozzo will report at the July meeting about the status of the September lecture.
A brief discussion on the potential for collecting magazines for distribution to groups such as nursing homes, prisons etc. An update will be provided at the next meeting.
