- FEA Visit to Indiana University
- Professor Forsyth reported on the trip to Indiana University by Professors Gliozzo, Funk, Harper-Jones, Greenbaum and Forsyth. A written report was presented to the Steering Committee as well as a series of photographs of the trip. A number of ideas for projects for our organization were presented that have worked at Indiana . Ideas that were presented were projects such as a videotape oral history project of MSU emeriti professors, participation in informal discussions with special guest and speakers visiting campus, hosting important campus visitors, updating the survey of emeriti to get new ideas on improving participation by emeriti faculty, to attempt to get the CIC to pursue emeriti issues, and for the FEA to get involved with the Association of Retirement Organizations in Higher Education. The group concluded that the visit was worthwhile that Indiana provided many suggestions that could help our group.
- Elections and Bylaw Implementation
- At the September meeting of the FEA two officers were elected for the Academic year 2007-2008. They were Professor Stone for Chair and Professor Forsyth for Vice Chair. A report from the Nominations Committee and emails from various Steering Committee members recommended individuals for election for the other positions. Elections were held by the members of the FEA present and the following were elected. They were:
- Secretary/Treasurer Maxine Ferris
- Nominations Committee David Greenbaum
- Lecture/Seminar Committee Larry Fischer
- Communications Committee Roger Funk
- Awards Committee Charles Gliozzo
Chair Stone thanks the members for working on the election process and getting the Bylaws implemented. At the next meeting of the FEA a discussion about the duties and functions of each committee will be held. Stone also indicated that all members of the Steering Committee should start to review the Bylaws so that at the spring meeting, we can make changes in the new Bylaws as needed.
- Lecture/Seminar Series
- The group discussed future lecturers and it was suggested that a December date might be appropriate. Professor Steve Harsh, Professor in Agricultural Economics might agree to give a lecture on “Wind Power”. Stone said that he would pass the suggestion on to Professor Gliozzo and have him contact Dr. Harsh.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:20
