MSU Faculty Emeriti Association
Steering Committee Meeting Minutes
209 Olds Hall
January, 22 2008, 1:30–3:30 p.m.
The January 22, 2008 meeting of the Steering Committee of the MSU Emeriti Faculty Association was called to order by the Chairman with the following members in attendance: Stone, Forsyth, Nelson, Ishino, Rivera, Wickert, Gliozzo, Sparrow, Rovner, Shaw and Ferris.
- OPENING COMMENTS
- PARTICIPATION IN AROHE
- Shaw reported that the application and dues check were sent.
- FEA ON-LINE JOURNAL
Gliozzo and Funk met with Clifford Haka, Director of Libraries, to discuss the possibility of establishing an on-line journal targeted at emeriti faculty. Haka supports the idea, as does Deborah Dezure, Assistant Provost. Discussion raised a number of questions related to the nature and frequency of such a publication, ways to insure quality, solicitation of contributions, labor requirements and legal implications –if any. A motion by Gliozzo, seconded by Rivera, to establish a sub-committee to pursue pre-planning for an on line journal passed. Contacts with AROHE as well as with the University’s General Council and Vice Provost David Gift were suggested.
- BY-LAWS
- A preliminary discussion of By-law changes was begun with suggestions being offered by Nelson. Shaw explained the nature of the group’s two financial accounts. All changes to the By-laws should be presented at the spring business meeting of the Association.
- NOMINATING COMMITTEE
- Stone reported that Greenbaum has resigned as Chair of the Nominating Committee. No one volunteered to head this committee, so the responsibility will be shared by Stone, Gliozzo, Rivera and Jones. In addition to presenting names of nominees for three-year terms on the Steering Committee, the group will need to set a date and determine the format for the spring business meeting.
- ORAL HISTORY
- Museum staff members have not been available to consult with the committee to date. Shaw will be the Museum contact in the absence of Ferris during February.
