Attendees – Stone, Sommers, Funk, Kimball, Wickert, Forsyth, Greenbaum, Reid, Ishino, Medick

I.         Chair Stone welcomed the group.

 

II.               The minutes from the April 27, 2005 meeting were approved.

 

III.             Wickert gave the Retirees Association report

A.    Next meeting is scheduled for July 27.

B.   Big Ten Retirees Association Conference is August 19-21 at MSU.  FEOP will be asked to participate in a 30 minute discussion at the August 21st morning meeting.

 

IV.            Lecture Series

A.    The inaugural presentation is June 2 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at 10B Nisbet Building. Dr. Rovner will present, “Medical Decision Making: When are decisions the Best That Can be Made”

B.    Advertising includes:

                                                    i.     Announced at lunch and learn

                                                  ii.     News bulletin

                                                iii.     Email to Retirees’ Association members

 

V.              Updates

A. Communication

The FEOP interest survey will be distributed during the next three weeks

B. College of Human Medicine –Learning and Assessment Center – www.lac.msu.edu – may have opportunities for Faculty Emeriti to volunteer with learning simulations.  More information is forthcoming.

C. Sense of Belonging

i.       209 Olds Hall – Is it possible to use a keypad lock?

ii.      Funk explained the redesign diagram

iii.    New furniture – defer making decisions until group knows if space will be used

D. Mission

Who should determine the mission?

a.     Evolving process

b.     Advertise to emeriti – feedback

c.     Clearinghouse

d.     Responsibility to provost’s office – retired faculty

E.     Red Cedar Log 

Committee met with Editor Stasha Taylor and advisor Cathy Newman to explore volunteer opportunities as a follow up to their presentation at the last meeting.  More information will be provided.
