Steering Committee Meeting Minutes

6/29/05 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Attendees: Stone, Sommers, Kimball, Wickert, Reid, Rovner, Medick, Greenbaum, Funk, Forsyth

I. Chair Stone welcomed the group. It was noted that Allyn Shaw was out of town and would not be in attendance at the meeting.

II. The minutes from the June 8, 2005 meeting were approved.

III. Professor Wickert informed the group that the last meeting this summer for the MSU Retirees Association would be held on July 29. If the Steering Committee wants to communicate anything to the group, Professor Wickert would be happy to give it to them.

IV. Updates:

A. The survey to emeriti faculty will be sent out within the next few days. It had been completed and approved for sending. A discussion followed about how to administer the forms and information that will be collected from the responses. A committee consisting of Professors Reid, Greenbaum and Stone will meet to develop procedures for processing the material. Their report will be discussed at the next meeting on July 20.

B. A lengthy discussion took place on the future needs of the Steering Committee to be effective and carry out the mission. The Committee discussed possible need for continuing help such as a part-time graduate assistant to staff the office. Also, to what extent do we need funds for other programs? Professor Stone will meet with Dr. Dezure to get input from her office.

C. The Committee decided to concentrate its efforts over the next few months on developing and strengthening the new lecture/seminar series. The next meeting will be devoted mainly to a discussion of this program.
