III. Updates:

A. MSU Retiree Association

Professor Wickert updated the Committee on The Retiree Association meeting. He noted that the MSU Faculty Emeriti Association did not have any article in the upcoming “Spartan Senior Citizen” and it probably would be valuable to get recognition by being in each issue. The Steering Committee agreed and it was noted that the “Communications Committee” should keep track of deadline dates and put in articles announcing what the FEA was doing.

Professor Wickert said that Don Jost (President of the Retiree Association) planned on having a 3 person group from that organization meet with President Simon to discuss medical care issues important to their Association. The FEA will discuss medical care at our next meeting to determine our position with respect to medical care issues pertaining to emeriti faculty.

Finally, it was mentioned that the Big 10 Retiree Associations were meeting at Purdue in the fall.

B. Representation on University Committees

Stone passed out a revised letter that could be sent to Academic Council requesting representation by the FEA. After a lengthy discussion, Professor Medick agreed to rewrite the letter for review at our next meeting. Stone said that he would send the first two drafts to Professor Medick for his use in rewriting the letter.

Professor Gliozzo reported that Professor Howard Tanner will present a

lecture on September 13, 2006. The time of the talk will be 2:30-4:30 in the Radiology Auditorium. Professor Gliozzo will get the title of the talk and Professor Stone said he would put a notice in the MSU News.

Another speaker was announced for October. Ms. Pam Beemer, Ast. Vice President Human Resources will speak on Monday, October 16. Her talk about the future direction of employee medical coverage at MSU will start at 2:30. It will be held in the Radiology Auditorium.

Professor Stone presented a draft of the Guidelines for review. He indicated that the Subcommittee had met and unanimously approved modifications of the Guidelines. The Steering Committee passed a motion to accept the June 30, 2006 DRAFT 3 on parts I, II and III. It was decided that the subcommittee would meet and start the work on Parts IV and V of the Guidelines. A number of suggestions for the subcommittee were suggested.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
