I.                 Chair Stone welcomed the group.

 

II.               The minutes from June 29, 2005 were approved.

 

III.             Retirees Association Update- last meeting scheduled for July 29.

 

IV.            Announcements:

Special Presentation: Healthy U

 

A. Nancy Allen, MSU Healthy U Director presented the history of the department.

1. Kellogg Foundation started concept in 1985.

2. MSU institutionalized in 1990s.

3. Healthy U is in the process of redefining/reestablishing after five years with no director.

4. New focus: retirees.

5. Health People 2010 (Health Indicators for America)

 

B. New area of study for Healthy U and opportunities for Faculty Emeriti for involvement:

1.  Life Enhancement: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Issues

2   Health Consumerism: Good consumer, access system

a.      To decrease cost, increase satisfaction

b.     Advance care planning program

3.     Mental Health and emotional Well-being

a.      Help in Area

4.     Physical movement and exercise

a.      Weight and Nutrition

b.     Eating behaviors and quality of diet

5.     Creation of a database for Healthy U participants.

 

C   MSU Faculty Emeriti Survey

                                                  ii.     Email from Don Jost, President, Retirees Association

                                                iii.     Who is Faculty Emeriti?

                                                iv.     Will ask for better definition of Faculty Emeriti

                                                  v.     Group is looking to better define word usage for creation of a useable database.
