Steering Committee Minutes

I. Chair Stone welcomed the group.

II. The minutes from the February 3, 2005 meeting were approved.

III. Updates:

A. Stone and Rovner examined the November 9 Open Forum minutes and grouped the suggestions.

B. Stone sent the new Spartan Senior Citizen article for the next edition.

C. DeZure offered an update on the new University calendar and that the Faculty Emeriti will be able to add to the information. The calendar will be running Fall semester 05.

D. Reid offered information about the Big Ten Retirees Association. Reid also had information on nationally established faculty emeriti programs.

E. Medick and Forsyth offered information about entitlements after meeting the VP Human Resources Pam Beemer.

F. Shaw said that the website has been updated with the committee names and previous meeting minutes.

IV. Action Items

1. Medick suggested a survey to faculty emeriti to ask what services they have offered to MSU over the last five years, whether formal or informal.
2. Reid will offer in depth information concerning his report.
3. Greenbaum and Stone will offer in depth information on their template.
4. Forsyth and Medick will meet with Dr. Banks, Assistant Provost and Vice President of Human Resources to learn more about entitlements.
5. Ishino suggested possible fundraising for this committee.
6. Shaw will talk with Sarah Nash to learn more about mailings to Faculty Emeriti.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in 443A Administration Building.
