International Permanent Residency Session

About | Register

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS), the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Faculty and Organizational Development are sponsoring a session on procedures required for departments and units to obtain permanent residency for international faculty and staff to MSU. The issues of determining the right visa status and obtaining permanent residency for foreign faculty/staff bring complexity to the issues associated with hiring staff. This will be a basic session and will not address specific form completion procedures. Staff in MSU units who are conducting searches that might result in an offer of employment to someone who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident should attend this session.

Establishing Permanent Residency for International Faculty and Staff at MSU
Thursday, November 12 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. (Registration opens at 8:45 a.m.) in 305 International Center.

The presenter will be Scott F. Cooper, Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, PLLC.

Purpose:
To familiarize department chairs/directors and executive managers with general information about permanent residency immigration regulations. This program will provide participants with:

  1. A brief overview of Employment-Based Permanent Residence
  2. Overview of the Labor Certification (PERM) process
  3. Overview of the international's responsibilities in the process
