MSU Faculty Emeriti Association Steering Committee Meeting
Wednesday, 17 June 2009
1:30-3:30 p.m. 201 International Center
The monthly meeting of the MSU Faculty Emeriti Association was called to order at 1:40 in Room 201 in the International Center by Chairman John Forsyth. Attendees: Birdwell, Fischer, Forsyth, Gliozzo, G. Hudson, R. Hudson, Mather, Nelson, Rivera, Shaw, Stone, Sparrow, Stapleton. Charles Gliozzo was thanked for arranging the location for the meeting.
- The minutes of the meeting of 20 May 2009 were approved.
- The new members Grover Hudson and James Stapleton were introduced and the other members introduced themselves.
- There was a discussion led by Fischer concerning possible future seminars. Greenbaum has arranged for David Gift to speak in August on the use of computers for medical records. The date and place will be announced later. Gliozzo requested the possibility of a lecture on 6 October 2009 by Cari Guittard who will only be available on that date. Place and title are being sought. The idea of FEA Day Tours was suggested. As a follow up to the lecture on library services, the library has planned three events this summer under the title Lifelong Library Emeriti Program. So far 28 people have reserved places. The event for Monday, 22 June is almost full. The other dates are Tuesday, 21 July from 10-12 a.m. and Thursday, 13 August from 2-4 p.m. These events will take place in the Beaumont Instruction Room in the Main Library. The library will also have a progressive lunch through their collections in Sunday, 30 August 2009 from noon to 3 p.m. in the Main Library.
- Gliozzo indicated that there will be another magazine collection in October. There will be details later about the collection at Student Services of magazines for distribution to hospitals, nursing homes, Burcham Hills and similar places. The drive was very successful in previous years. Both popular and professional publications are accepted.
- Stone reported on the Health Care Task Forces. The current emphasis is on prescription drugs and there is some interest in the concept of wellness. Members had a number of questions and there was a good discussion of concerns which they hope the task forces will consider.
- The MSU Retiree Association will not meet again until August.
- Mather reported on the paper done at Davenport University by Cindi Young for which a number of Steering Committee members participated in focus groups. Mather has read the paper and thinks it would be useful if we all read it. He will check with Young and her professor to ascertain if we may copy it.
- We agreed to move the meeting date from the third Wednesday of the month to the fourth Wednesday beginning in September with the exception of November and December when the third Wednesday will be used because the fourth is too close to major holidays. We have NO meeting in July. The August meeting will be Wednesday, 19 August from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in Room 204 International Center. Meetings will be held 23 September, 28 October. 18 November, 16 December 2009 and 27 January, 24 February, 24 March, 28 April, and 26 May 2010 from 1:30-3:30 in places to be determined.
- The meeting was adjourned at 2:55.
