II.                 Professor Wickert updated the Committee on The Retiree Association meeting.  He noted that they would be holding a lunch meeting on May 8 at the Kellogg Center and all were invited.  Their Board of Directors will meet in early May and then have a summer break until July.

III.               The minutes of the April 26, 2006 meeting were approved.

IV. Updates:

  1. Lecture/Seminar Series:

No speaker for the June lecture is available as of this time.  It was decided to delay the next lecture until September.  This will give us the time to select a lecture and to set up the details of advertising etc.

The Steering Committee decided that the amount of effort needed to set up the seminar/lectures that a special Committee should be developed.  The group voted to have Professor Gliozzo chair the Committee.  Other members that agreed to be on the Committee were Professors Medick and Harper-Jones.  Stone said he would help to the extent needed.  This Committee will immediately take over the duties for the series.

  1. Representation on University Committees

Stone provided a rough draft of a letter that could be sent to Jon Sticklen concerning representation on Academic Council and Faculty Affairs.  Earlier Professor Sticklen requested that we get a statement from the MSU Retiree Association backing our proposal.  His concern was that there was a united front representing faculty retirees.  After much discussion, Professor Stone said he would communicate to Don Jost about signing off on a letter that would indicate that we were working together on this issue.

C.  Medical Issues:  Professor Rovner reported a group met on April 24 and discussed Screening for Medical Issues.  It was a small group and they were still evaluating if this type of meeting should continue.

IV.              MSU FEA Organization Structure

Stone led a discussion on how the FEA might formalize its structure.  This would include selection of officers, Subcommittee structure and chairs, length of appointments etc.

He passed out the Bylaws of the MSU Retiree Association. for possibly using as an outline for our structure.  Stone will meet with Professor Gliozzo and report back at the next meeting.

Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in 209 Olds Hall.
