Strategic, Systematic, and Sensible Workflow Practices: Moving from Chaos to Control
Meggin McIntosh, President, Emphasis on Excellence, Inc.

Monday, October 5, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Kellogg Center Room 105
(Continental breakfast and registration at 8:00 a.m.; program begins at 8:30 a.m.)

As an administrator, you have a stunning number and variety of tasks, responsibilities, and commitments, all of which compete for your time, energy and attention. Rather than allow this overload to devolve into chaos, it is important for you to put strategies, systems and common sense into practice.

You need practical plans to ensure that the right items come to you (at the right time), to allow for your highest priority work to get done in a timely manner, and to prepare yourself and your staff to keep the work streaming through to the next point of decision.

In this practical and engaging workshop designed for YOU, participants will realize, refine and rediscover tools and techniques to apply right away. Not only will your effectiveness be enhanced, but so will your peace of mind.

Intercultural Competence
Bruce LaBrack, Professor Emeritus. Anthropology, University of the Pacific, Partner, International Training Group

Thursday, November 19, 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Kellogg Center, Red Cedar Rooms
(Registration at 2:45 p.m.; program begins at 3:00 p.m.)

MSU is an international university and is proud to host a diverse enrollment of students and scholars from many parts of the world. MSU has identified leadership competencies which include being able to understand and interact effectively with different cultures.

While cultural differences can be a source learning toward the goal of international understanding, they can also bring misunderstandings, hurt feelings and emotional conflict.

  • At the conclusion of this session, participants will:
  • Understand how cultural differences influence our attitudes and behaviors;
  • Be able to describe what occurs during intercultural encounters;
  • Use new understanding to make and sustain positive relationships with people of diverse backgrounds; and
  • Help make MSU a more accepting and cosmopolitan institution.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): Implications for Leaders
Debra Nelson-Dunbar, University Consultant, University Employee and Organizational Development Services, Indiana University

Tuesday, February 16, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Kellogg Center, Room 104 (includes lunch)
(Continental breakfast and registration at 8:00 a.m.; program begins at 8:30 a.m.)

“To be an enduring leader you must be clear about your strengths and weaknesses. You must know your tendencies to filter information, your preferences in decisions and your personal idiosyncrasies.”

-- Lee and Norma Barr,
The Leadership Equation

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a tool that identifies and facilitates your understanding of your natural tendencies and how they impact your role as a leader and your leadership style.

Note: You will complete an MBTI assessment prior to attending this seminar.

Making Ethical Decisions
Michael Josephson, President, Joseph and Edna Josephson Institute for Ethics

Thursday, April 15, 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Kellogg Center, Room 106
(Continental breakfast and registration at 8:00 a.m.; program begins at 8:30 a.m.)

This half-day workshop will equip participants to make ethical decisions that are able to withstand scrutiny. It will begin with the Six Pillars of Character that can be used to guide decision making. These pillars are non-sectarian.

Through group discussion and participation, attendees will gain an understanding of how to navigate conflicts between personal values and organizational values as well as the differences between legal and ethical requirements. This session will conclude with an easy-to-use, seven-step path to better decisions that will enable participants to make ethical decisions when faced with conflicting values and ethical gray areas in their work and personal lives.

Note: You will receive a copy of Michael Josephson’s “Making Ethical Decisions” as a part of this seminar.
